Dull paint is usually just scratched paint.
A vehicle that looks tired usually does not need paint. It needs its clear coat corrected. Automatic washes, dry wiping and years of sun leave a fine web of scratches that scatters light in every direction, which is what reads to your eye as dull. Big flat hoods and roofs show it worst, because there is nothing to distract from a whole plane of the same haze. Machine polishing levels that layer back down so the color underneath comes back. Polishing, touch ups and spot repairs are also available mobile at your home, office or lot.

Will polishing remove a scratch?
If the scratch does not catch a fingernail, usually yes, because it sits in the clear coat. Anything deeper than that has gone past what polishing can level and needs refinishing.
Why do truck hoods and roofs look worse than the doors?
They face straight up. Horizontal panels take the most sun, the most water spotting and the most contact from washing, so oxidation and swirls concentrate there first.
How long does the result last?
The correction itself is permanent, since the scratches are physically gone. How long it looks that way depends on how the vehicle is washed from then on.
